The original painting
was done using acrylic/chalk pastel resulting in a colourful and dynamic
image. I started in the centre with a depiction the Claret Jug ...the Holy
Grail of golf... which radiates its brilliance outwards towards it's past
winners. Above the trophy I chose to place the backdrop of the Royal and
Ancient building representing St Andrews...the home of golf. To emphasize
the Old Course, the venue of the Millennium Open, on the finished print...
below and to the left and right... I have added 2 scanned drawings - the
Swilken Bridge and the Starter's Hut.
The golfers themselves were fitted into place jigsaw
style from the centre to the picture's edges.
Figures were placed facing inwards with 5 time winners
Peter Thomson and Tom Watson side by side. The 3 times winners were grouped
around the centre.
I tried to make the image as strong, colourful and contrasting
as possible using the pastel strokes to create movement and vitality. I
am happy to say the resulting striking group portrait has been well received
worldwide and remaining print numbers are low. Please contact me to order
