J J was a contestant on Cilla Black's television dating show ... one of three guys competing for the heart of a beautiful women ... J J applied to Blind Date early in 1995 to be a contestant. There were two very short interviews in Glasgow after which he was told not to expect anything but that if he was selected then they would contact him. Six months later (an October Friday) he had a call saying that he had been selected to appear on the show which was being recorded the following Tuesday!!! The next few days in the lead up to the show were spent constantly on the phone to the researchers who wanted to find out as much about J J as they could. Next thing you know, everyone is waiting with anticipation for the show to start. The show was recorded in October 1995 and subsequently shown to the nation in January 1996. |

Now let's dispell the myth here - the questions and answers are NOT scripted. However, clearly they are given the questions in advance so that they can prepare - there's only an hour in it though ... |
||
Okay, so let's talk about the nitty gritty. The scenario was girl chooses boy ... girl asks all the questions ... boy tries to impress her with his answers and so win her heart and her vote ... so what's new these days ... men have been doing that for women since the begining of time! Anyway, here's how it went for J J: Amy: I'm studying Media at university - how would you like me to advertise you? Amy: I love dancing - how would you impress me on the dance floor? Amy: How would you entertain me on our first date? |

Well Cilla was certainly impressed with all the boys' answers but what did Amy think? You've guessed it ... J J won hands down ... she fell for his punch lines hook line and sinker. The screen went back, they both met each other for the first time, fireworks flew, lights flashed ... The holiday they picked was 3 days/nights in Holland just outside Rotterdam. Everyone had arrived at the show already packed for a multitude of potentially different holidays (not knowing whether they would win or where they might go). Amy and J J left for the holiday the Thursday immediately following the recording of the show, so they would be back in time to discuss their adventure on the following week's show. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that Amy and J J just were not suited to each other. This meant that, while it was great to have the free holiday abroad, see the world etc, romantically it was a complete failure .... they just didn't get on. Let's not dwell on the morbid. They came back to the following weeks show for the interview/reviews. After the show they were all taken to Stringfellows for a huge party before returning home. |

Overall, J J enjoyed the show and the holiday. It was great fun and an opportunity for him to let his hair down, have a good time - and for free!!! Again, J J received alot of support from the local Stonehaven community. At the moment, J J is YFAS (Young Free And Single) and has no firm romantic plans for the future. He takes life as it comes, but is always open to offers *smile*. |
