All you may (or may not) want to know!
An unlikely route into computers and to the Geofox! Two or three years ago I decided it was time to find out about computers..... at that time I had not even seen a mouse! I began with a PC, hoping to use a digital camera, scanner and video capture card to widen my art work. I still haven't cracked that yet! I soon found myself becoming engrossed in what the computer could do, and quickly got myself online . I first heard about palmtops when "Watchdog" (a TV consumer affairs programme here in the UK) featured the early problems with the Psion 5. I had been dreaming of being able to work with my computer without having to sit exhausting hours in front of the monitor. I thought it was just that - a dream - until I saw "Watchdog". My first purchase was a Psion 3c. The big attraction for me was to have the Word Processing capability, and to be able to write in comfort, then transfer the text to the PC. When I began to discover just how much more my palmtop could do, I was quite amazed! "How ever did I live without it!" I was soon uttering the cry of every Psion owner. I took out a subscription to the excellent Palmtop magazine and first discovered the Geofox there. Internet, email, and fax could be mine, with a neat slot-in modem, a huge screen, a larger keypad, and 16 MB of space to play with. I had to have it!! And now that I do have it? Total delight at its capabilities, which I freely admit I have not fully explored as yet. But I do have 6 novels, 2 books of poetry, many articles, 20 databases, many games, a Newsgroup Reader, and my favourite Lost Treasures of Infocom...... all packed into the space of a slim paperback book..... and that is forgetting my address book and several diaries. It is also my diary, my alarm clock, and my calculator. It reminds me of everything I need to know from family anniversaries to when the bills are due to be paid. I keep my Journal on it, write all my correspondence, and yes, even write these Web pages. Then, with two wires ( to the power point and the phone socket) I am away.... emailing or faxing or tuning in to the talk in the Newsgroups! No wonder I am spending my precious energy designing a Website in praise of my Geofox....... and don't anyone dare to call it an "electronic organiser"...... that's like calling a Rolls Royce a Mini !!
